Teen coming of age drama, October 31 was chosen as one of the select films to premiere at the prestigious New York International Latino Film Festival (NYILFF) presented by HBO August 13-19. October 31 will premiere on Thursday, August16th at 4:00 PM. Directed by Geo Santini, the provocative film takes a controversial look at the dark side of adolescence, focusing on what can go wrong when teens feel lost and misunderstood.
Set in a small town in the United States, October 31 centers around the main character, 17-year-old David Wellsa popular football player who after a tragic incident, is forced to move to a new town, leaving behind his friends and subsequently his popularity. Wells quickly discovers that he is not only unpopular, but is only able to make friends with those considered the bad crowd, a group fascinated by vampire culture. As it relates to this film, vampirism is a metaphor for the teens alter ego. A vampire is a predator, a dead soul, with no spirit living on the dark side. The characters in this film have had their spirits broken, through a feeling of being outcasts. Vampirism is a way for them to feel as if they belong, explains Director Geo Santini.
Through a series of twist, turns, and bad decisions, David finds himself taking part in a crime that will change his life and the lives of his newfound friends forever. October 31 provides a provocative and revealing look at the lives of American teenagers. I started writing October 31 when I read a story about a young gay teenager from a small town who was killed by a bullying incident. This struck me, and as I started to conduct research, I discovered that an alarming rate of teenagers are strugglingnot just with bullying from peers, but a lot of times, the abuse can start at home with their own siblings and family members, says Geo Santini.
Geo Santini is thrilled to have his film premiere at the prestigious festival. This is my second film to premiere at NYILFF. My film, Hotel California received wide acclaim and formidable buzzwhich ultimately led to a distribution deal as a direct result of appearing in this very festival, says Geo. Cast credits include: main actors, Andrew Lawrence, Jesse James, Kosha Patel and Daniel Cloud Campos. The film is produced by Todd Chamberlain and co-produced by Russell Griffith.
In addition to the premiere of October 31, Santini is busy preparing to launch Wize Guys Comedyan online comedy network with the aim of providing progressive, over-the-top comedy to viewers. The websitewhich consists of original, exclusive content, including scripted series and animated shorts, is aspiring to take online comedy to an elevated level through SNL-style skits and daily comedic postings. Geo is also in pre-production on several projects.
